According to one source: The information given by a merchandising coordinator on the missing 500 pins is that a 500-pin box was destroyed in the warehouse when a forklift drove over the box. Several merchandising managers have stated that these pins will not be replaced. The back of the pin states that it is a “Limited Edition of 1000”, but only 500 were available.
