Description: Dietz Monarch NY USA Railroad Barn Red Fizall Glass Globe Gray Tubular Lantern 1947 We are pleased to offer this highly collectible Dietz Monarch tubular gray painted metal railroad or barn lantern manufactured in the USA circa 1947 at factory S which denotes Dietz Syracuse Factory #2. The Dietz Monarch lantern was first introduced in 1900, and has been produced in at least seven distinct variations continuously over the past 108 years. During WWII, tin was needed so Dietz went to a terne plating which was not as rust resistant so it needed to be painted. They used gray paint. In 1949 they changed to the metallic blue. This lantern's frame is embossed around top rim "New York N.Y. U.S.A Dietz Monarch" as well as around bottom rim "Monarch Dietz N.Y. U.S.A". It is marked on the center air tube with patent information and "S-7-49". One side of its red ruby glass globe is marked with embossed "Dietz" in an oval and "Fitzall, N.Y. U.S.A." The opposite reads "C4, LOC-NOB, REGD. IN U.S.A." This lantern stands about 14" tall - 18" tall to the top of its swing bail handle. It measures 6-1/2" wide across its round base. It has not been tested with kerosene or oil. The tank looks fine and should have no problem holding fuel, but we do not know if it is in working condition. The knob to turn the wick turns rather hard and does not seem to be moving the wick. Please refer to photos for its cosmetic condition.
