Description: Schjeldahl X8437 DC Motor Speed Controller Board This circuit board utilizes the same circuitry as a RO-AN RA588 circuit board that superseded it. Note that this is an earlier board design with the MOV surge suppressor and speed control resistor attached externally to the terminal strip. Later designs incorporated these components actually soldered onto the circuit board. This board was removed from service, repaired and held in the maintenance crew inventory for installation at a later date. Typically, the boards were very reliable but often damaged by someone carelessly adjusting the speed control resistor. The resistors can be damaged by moving the resistor slider without sufficiently loosening the screw or from leaving the screw loose after adjustment and causing an arc. The specifications for this controller are unknown. A circuit diagram was created by following circuit board traces and identifying components on the circuit board. Recently tested using a Leeson ¼ Horsepower, 90 VDC, 2.5 Amp Motor NOT INCLUDED but shown in the pictures. This item was thought to be a proprietary design used to operate equipment for manufacturing plastic bags and thought to be 30-years old. Also, it was thought to have originally been used with Leeson ¼ horsepower DC motors. An Internet search turned up a reference to a circuit board repair service for $112.00 but no source for new replacements.
