Description: This is a rare set of two advertising handbills (flyers) promoting the Original West End production of the irreverent, but hilarious "JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA" which played London's Cambridge Theatre. (The production opened November 10th, 2003 and ran for 609 performances.) ..... Winner of four separate "Best Musical" awards (The Olivier Awards, The Critics' Circle Awards, The Evening Standard Awards and The What's On Stage Awards), the production is far from demure. It has been described as depraved, irreligious, profane and obscene and resulted in a record number of complaints from viewers when the BBC aired the production throughout the UK last January. Why such a subject? Composer and co-author Richard Thomas said of the original Jerry Springer Show, "It's got tragedy. It's got violence. There are people screaming at each other and you can't understand what they're saying. It's perfect for opera." And he was right! The musical's main character is JERRY SPRINGER (played by MICHAEL BRANDON), the American talk-show host who after interviewing a diaper-fetishist, a transexual and an aspiring stripper and following a snappy dance number from the Ku Klux Klan, is shot and sent to hell to interview Satan, Jesus and Adam & Eve as if his life depends on it. Others in the cast included DAVID BEDELLA, ALISON JIEAR, WILLS MORGAN, LEON CRAIG, CARRIE ELLIS, CHRISTOPHER KEY, RYAN MOLLOY, CLAIRE PLATT and BENJAMIN LAKE ..... DETAILS: The flyer shown on the left is a single page, two-sided handbill which measures 4" X 8 3/8" inches and offers discounted tickets with Sky. The handbill on the right is four pages, measures 7 7/8" X 8 3/8" inches (when opened), and includes a list of awards, excerpts from several London reviews and a number of production photos on the inside pages ..... CONDITION: This set is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
