Description: Hello all, This was one of the first, it not the first props I ever molded. Straight from the original! If I was to do it today, they’d be a lot more clear. These was hand painted and detailed by me many years ago and given a finish that’ll last forever if taken care of! I painted these to appear closely as possible to the original I have, minus the mold mine had on the back from being stored poorly by the previous owner lol. The origins of this prop goes back probably close to 20 years now. I traded for it from a guy whose dad worked on the production in California back in the 1980’s. I moved recently and I can’t locate the original prop or the mold I made to make the small handful of these I have, hopefully they’ll show up once I’ve better organized my garage and workshop. So the story of the prop is there was 3 postal badges used in filming. The script called for the badge number to be “260” and they couldn’t locate or find a number that matched so they made one. This badge was the primary one for filming. They also had this one here for backup. As seen in the photo above the one Mr. Durning is wearing, the numbers aren’t lined up perfectly and the bottom of the badge would have said originally either “letter carrier” OR the city and state of the location the postal worker worked. This was altered somehow or blank for filming purposes. As mine was as well. The badge itself was a blank. I’ve never ever seen one before or since and I take that as it was supplied for movie studios. Another reason I found it to be legit was the gentleman I traded for explained how these was actually hat badges they modified to put on the helmet. The corners and back of the badge where a pin backing once were was removed and bent so they could be glued to the helmet. This also is seen in the photo above as it does not sit flush with the helmet as it should. Lastly the original badge had a matte finish added to it, to keep the sun shine and glare off their lighting from affecting their camera. Also appeared to be a little dirty. It is the same exact design and shape as seen in the movie. And my badge also has the modifications used as you see in the photos above. Also, several day time shots of the movie it appears the badge used is blank. Those are the reasons I find this to be a legit prop from “Dark Night of the Scarecrow”. Charles Durning wasn’t just one amazing character actor in film and theatre, he was also a true American hero and truly a great example of a true good human being. If I was taken by a good story that was absolutely convincing at the time, then I guess if nothing else, here’s a copy of a postal blank, that in itself is extremely rare. Any imperfections in the cast was a result in the original badge. It was very thin and wasn’t perfect by any means. I added a postal badge #101 as a reference photo to show the differences. Any questions please feel free to ask! Once these few are gone, they’re gone for good possibly. I have no idea what they are worth to fans, I’m not expecting the asking price, so feel free to make an offer. Thanks! Bob
