Description: Trumpeter 05609 CV-14 Ticonderoga, 1/350 scale plastic kit, 30½” long, 5¼” wide. CV-14 is a long hull Essex Class carrier so the kit included a bow extension part. She served in Korea from May - November 1950 and carried out the first air strikes in the Korean War on 3 Jul 1950. ** The kit has been painted, partially assembled and modified to represent the carrier during the Korean War. All guns and other small parts must still be added to the carrier. Modifications #1. Hull and hanger deck is assembled and painted. Some hanger deck doors are fully open, some partially open and some closed (a brass railing set is included to install railings on open hanger doors and deck edges). Added brass ladders and railings to island and 5" turrets. #2. Pontos wood flight deck added and weathered, added two forward catapults and brass arrestor cable housings. Applied yellow hull numbers and dashed deck guide lines. (These were changed from WWII white to yellow during late 1940s). #3. WWII aircraft have been replaced with Korean War period aircraft including jets and helicopter. All aircraft are nicely done and have been painted Navy Blue. (canopies need to be painted and silver trim added to jet aircraft wings). Aircraft Included: 4 x AD-5 Skyraider (3D milled, no propellers), 2 x AD-4W Skyraider (3D milled), 12 x F4U Corsair (Trumpeter), 8 x F2H-2 Banshee (3D milled), 8 x F9F-5 Panther (3D milled), 2 x Sikorsky H-5 (resin w/photo etched parts). #4. Replaced WWII decals with Korean period aircraft decals plus “45” decal for both sides of the island and the starboard side of the hull. #5. Extra 1/350 details included: Trumpeter USN Carrier Deck Equipment (Tilley crane and 5 tow tractors), Eduard PE set Ticonderoga railings and catwalks plus LSO station, Universal PE ships railings. (The main carrier picture shows the island sitting on the flight deck which is sitting on the hull ..... these parts are not yet glued in place.*** I will also include 5 partially used bottles of Vallejo acrylic paint. ** Plus Video with all flying scenes from the movie “Bridges at Toko-Ri”, and a 1951 Navy film showing action aboard USS Princeton during the Korean War. Also Mike Ashey’s excellent book “Ship Manual #2, Building and Detailing Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Franklin CV-13”. It can be used for any Trumpeter Essex kit plus includes info on adding the extra part for the long hulled Essex carriers.
