The series focus is on the fingering hand, while picking hand shots are included when necessary. NOTES ON Janis Joplin DVD: Great guitar riffs, leads, songs! Janis Joplin was not known as a guitar player but she did surround herself with great ones! She did a variety of styles but always had a great soulful blues vibe to everything. Big Brother and the Holding Company was very guitar-centric and the songs she did with them as the Kozmic Blues had some great guitar. I also loved the experimental feel that was happening in the 1960's and wanted to highlight the use of some scales & modes. I felt including Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was a good fit because of their similarity of styles as well as use of more exotic scales. Janis' version of Summertime made great use of the Harmonic Minor and White Rabbit's opening lead is a wonderful example of the Phrygian mode. The double stop leads in Little Piece of My Heart have always been one of my favorites and any one of those leads would make this a bargain at twice the price. But even if you just wanted to learn the songs to play and sing along with this DVD it would still be a bargain and must have for those true Janis Joplin & Grace Slice fans alike.
