Description: If you love having a high resolution opto-sensor trackball but wish it had ball bearings, you're in the right place. This is a ball bearing upgrade / repair kit for CST and X-Keys opto trackballs. The kit includes a set of 3 roller bearings for the CST2545 and compatible models. It fits opto-mechanical models that use the newer style "brown plastic sleeve" bearing and either the flat or double-flanged roller. This includes most CST2xxx models. These are a drop-in replacement for the factory bearings. Features: high quality deep-groove steel bearings, a steel shaft, and custom printed fittings for a factory fit. Each kit is tested for feel and fit in a CST trackball. The adapter bushings are printed in high quality PLA. (Color may vary!) There are three versions of the kit: Greased, Light oil, and Unlubricated Grease reduces the throw but increases life, and becomes smoother over time. This kit is best for small, precision movements and people who like the factory feel. The slight resistance from the grease adds control to small motions and tends to mask the sticking feel of the starting friction. For users that like to make tiny mouse movements or play FPS games with a high sensitivity, this is the best choice. It's like the factory bearings, but better Light oil offers longer throw and even less resistance, at the expense of a little more noise and somewhat shorter wear resistance. It is great for desktop use. It can also be great for FPS games, for you like to set the mouse sensitivity low and use larger movements. There is very little rolling resistance and it throws very well. My favorite. Fast! The oiled bearing kits are hand oiled and built on demand. Unlubricated bearings have the lowest rolling resistance, but may wear out faster and are noisier. Like a spinner. You can also choose your own lubrication. Pro tip: don't use liquid "teflon lube." It is made for chainsaws and power tools, and will leave lumps of teflon in the rollers. They'll last forever but they will feel awful. What's in the box:Three roller bearings with mounting bushingsNothing elseHistory: I designed this because my bearing stuck and wore a flat spot in the double-flanged roller. This is apparently a common failing in the factory sleeve-style bearing. Ball bearings roll easier, resist clogging, and last a long time. Since the parts came in bags of 10, I made 3 sets and sold the spares--and people bought those, so I kept making them. Performance: There is improved throw-catch. It is possible to throw the ball across a 1080 screen at 400CPI resolution with Windows default (middle notch) mouse settings, delivering performance similar to an Itac mouse-trak ball, but without the need for acceleration. The trackball performs like it should have from the factory. The feel is looser and smoother than the flanged factory bearings, and pretty similar to the factory flat bearings, varying a bit based on the lubrication. Advantages: This kit uses ball bearings instead of the sleeved plastic bearing. In addition to a free ball bearing feel, it is resistant to clogging by pet hair/fuzz, which means less frequent disassembly and cleaning, lasts a long time, and delivers a smooth rolling feel. Disadvantages: ball bearings can be significantly louder than the stock shaft bearings. Because of the smooth motion, the rattle of the individual bearings or a single piece of dust can be jarring.Compatibility: This kit is compatible with most CST opto-mechanical trackballs. They also fit the new P.I. Engineering X-Keys trackball. Please message with any questions about compatibility. The CST2545 is an "L-Trac" trackball, but not all trackballs sold under the L-Trac brand name use the same bearings. Probably does not fit: CST1350, most CST trackballs from CST800-CST1550, as these are not laser trackballs, but are "mechanical", with a little chopper wheel. (You can order rebuild kits for these from other sources, which is nice.) This is a drop-in replacement for the factory bearings, and fits like the factory bearing. Just gently-but-firmly push them in. If you buy one and it seems like you need to force it, or it is loose, something is wrong! Message me and send it back! Returns gladly accepted if it doesn't fit/work. Whether it works or not, I'd love to hear what model you tried it in and the results. If you have *any * issues at all please contact me, and I'll refund you. I love my kits, and use them every day in three trackballs, one PI and two CST. :) Note to international shoppers: We list the correct value of retail product on customs forms. Please do not ask me to commit a felony. Thanks!
