CONCERTS FOR THE PEOPLE OF KAMPUCHEA EX 1981 2LP 1ST PRESS CLASH QUEEN THE WHO

Description: Vinyl: EX Play Graded. Sounds excellent! Atlantic Labels are Clean and Bright. This is the audiophile acclaimed Atlantic SD2-7005 1ST PRESSING, Mastered by George Piros and Pressed at Columbia's Terre Haute, IN Pressing Plant! Piloted by Paul McCartney, this benefit addressed the needs of a country in shambles in the aftermath of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge's path of terror in the 1970s (see The Killing Fields). The cream of the crop of British Rock/New Wave and Punk bands rallied for McCartney and this stunning performance is the result. Killer performances from The Clash, The Who, Elvis Costello, Led Zeppelin (minus Jimmy Page, and featuring one of John Bonham's final performances), Queen, Pretenders, and a once-only performance by the Rockestra Orchestra. See Review Below! In The Dead Wax: Matrices, etched. Also, on all 4 sides: T1 ATGP ((Mastered by George Piros at Atlantic Studios, NYC, ad Pressed at Columbia's Terre Haute, IN Pressing Plant)) Complete Dead Wax information cheerfully provided upon request. Cover: VG+ (see photos) Gatefold. Includes the company sleeves. Front and back of cover artwork and text are rich, clear and bright, with minor wear. Seams, corners and spine are solid and clean, except for the top seams which have some wear and chipping. Notch cut. No writing. No stickers. No seam splits. Spine print is crystal clear. Thanks! Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album? First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources…essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl. Why experience the worse elements of both formats? These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared. They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound. There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm. First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider. Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer. On first and early pressings, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant. The physics of sound energy is hard to clarify and write about from a listening perspective, but the best we can describe it is to say that you can 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music. Concerts for the People of Kampuchea Review by Ted Mills Whereas George Harrison had his all-star charity concert for the people of Bangladesh, Paul McCartney had this December, 1979 series of concerts in Hammersmith Odeon to raise money for the victims of Pol Pot's reign of terror in Cambodia. It was a meeting of the old guard (McCartney, the Who) and the new (the Clash, Ian Dury, the Pretenders, Elvis Costello), and those in the middle (Queen) who could sneak in. The audio quality is raw and lively; It sonically leaps off the vinyl and some, like Queen's performance of Now I'm Here, are staggering. The Who -- with a full side devoted to them -- deliver their usual stadium set (edited from a three-hour performance). Of most interest in terms of rockstar-watching is the "Rockestra," a supergroup of the musicians from all three nights. Before the infamous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame superstar jams, here's about 30 rockers plowing away at "Lucille" and "Let It Be" in front of thousands of awestruck fans. A great example of wishing you had been there, this is the next best thing.
