Description: 2000 seeds of Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) collected in September 2022. Common milkweed is native to a large range in eastern North America and is found in fields, along the edges of roads and farmland, gardens and yards, etc. It usually blooms in the 2nd or 3rd year from seed with pink puffy flowers that have a heavenly fragrance and attract bees and butterflies. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and spreads by runners, so it is best planted in a natural area or informal garden. Common milkweed is likely the most important host plant for the eastern migratory population of the Monarch butterfly. Female Monarchs lay eggs on it and the caterpillars eat the leaves, stems, and flowers. Even a few plants in the garden can help support the Monarch breeding cycle. There are approx. 4000 seeds per ounce.
