Harold Esdaile Malet (1841-1918) Title: 1880 watercolor: the sitting room at Cheltenham Terrace, Dublin Description: Handsomely framed and under glass, visible image measures 6.75 x 3.75 inches (17 x 9.5 cm), not examined outside the frame; purchased in 1997 at Abbot & Holder gallery in London (note on back of frame). Malet studied art as a youth but was destined for a military life, and he served with the XVIII Hussars in Bangalore. He was an inveterate sketcher of places where he lived, which were many because of his career, and assembled many drawings and watercolors, especially of Wiltshire, the family seat.
