Description: Theodore S Peck, of Burlington, VT repeatedly tried to enlist as an underage soldier; finally in 1861 he became a private in the 1st Vermont, fighting at Winchester, Va. In 1862 he was appointed Sergeant, 9th Vermont and rose through the ranks to be commissioned. He was awarded the Congressional Medal f Honor for heroism at the Battle of Newport Barracks, North Carolina, February, 1864. Later that year he was wounded in action at Chaffin's Farm, Virginia but survived to finish the war with captain's rank.
