Civil War Bullets - Manassas Junction, Virginia - 3709

Description: A group of Federal issue bullets excavated by Terri Heilman from the Manassas Junction area in Virginia. The lead bullets include three .69 round balls for the Model 1842 musket, a .44 round musket ball, three .58 caliber for the Springfield rifle or contract arms of the same caliber and a .52 Sharps carbine. The round balls could have been used by either side, the bullets are Federal issue. The tag is Terri’s original. In July of 1861 General McDowell’s Federal columns were headed for the vital railroad junction at Manassas. Here the Orange and Alexandria Railroad met the Manassas Gap Railroad, which led west to the Shenandoah Valley. If McDowell could seize this junction, he would stand astride the best overland approach to the Confederate capital. During the Civil War both sides used the area as a supply base. Terry Heilman was a long time relic hunter here in Stafford County, Virginia. Terry hunted many of the sites here in Stafford County and the Confederate 1862 Occoquan Defense Line in Prince William County among others. Like my father and I he cataloged all of his finds in groups or a lot of them with individual tags as to where it was recovered. He excavated ration cans, horse shoes and a lot of the tools that the soldiers would have used. Most of the artifacts from the 1st Texas camp were dug out of their hut sites. A lot of the artifacts would have long since rusted away except for his care. They come as shown in a 6” x 8” riker style case. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. The documents pictured will also come with the set. Please see our "About” on front page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
