Description: Christian Herald Magazine Periodical October 18, 1899 Volume 22 No 42 on the Cover South African "President Paul Kruger Preaching to a Boer Congregation in Pretoria: The Boer statesman is a powerful preacher, simple and straightforward rather than eloquent, and has a remarkable acquaintance with Scripture.-(See Page 791)" This periodical has so much historical information and some amazing illustrated advertisements. There was no table of contents to include. Here is some of what you will find inside:Our Mail-Bag (also a photograph "Presentation of the Nations Gift to Admiral Dewey" October 3, 1899 Washington, DC. (the gift of the nation in memory of the victory at Manila Bay. Admiral Dewey received a "magnificent" $10,000 sword voted to him by congress.))The Gospel in the Hop Fields (Madison and Oneida counties, New York) with three photographsThe Metropolitan Pulpit The Deer Hunt A sermon by Rev. T. DeWitt Talmage, D.D. on the text Psalm 42:1France's Picturesque Missions with two photographsThe World's Oldest Poem Armed Hosts In Transvaal - British and Boer Forces Face to Face, and a Clash is Momentarily Expected--Final Efforts for Peace--It May Be a Sanguinary War of RacesCivil War in VenezuelaStewards and Prodigals by Dwight E. MoodyIn the center of the periodical, "Our Alaskan Wonderland and Its Marvelous Cities" with seven photographsAnd so much more. Also, ads for John Wanamaker, Rubifoam (for teeth), Remington Typewriter, Free Goldfish, the list goes on. A person could spend hours, perhaps days reading this periodical. (I admit, this person has spent quite a bit of time carefully browsing the pages. One thing I cannot figure out. On the cover, why is the lady in the second pew not facing forward? Hmmm.). The condition is acceptable. The center was not stapled so all pages are loose but present. It appears as though it got damp at some point. There are watermarks at the outer edges, the marks lessen towards the center. The back cover and page 796 have a black mark. The center of the magazine (pg 794, 795) has a hole in the middle. At some point in time, the magazine was folded in half resulting in a center crease and cracks at the edges. The cover top right corner is broken and other corners on most pages are bent. (see photos) With the exception of the original mailing label, there are no marks or writing. Photographs are an important part of my description.
