According to him, it all started with an idea to issue a commemorative coin to mark the anniversary of the Chernihiv Principality. Experts from the Sheremetyev Museum in Kyiv provided consulting support, and many historical sources were researched. Historical sources show that Yaroslav the Wise, already being a prince of Kyiv and Novgorod, had to overcome the resistance of his brother Mstyslav the Brave, who claimed the Kyiv throne. The decisive battle took place in 1024 near the town of Lyschov (now the area near the village of Malyi Lyschov in Chernihiv Oblast). This event resulted in reconciliation and division of power between the brothers. Yaroslav remained prince in Kyiv, and Mstyslav chose Chernihiv as his capital city. That is why the symbols depicted on the stamp include the trident of Mstyslav the Brave; two principalities, Kyiv and Chernihiv, separated by the Dnipro River; a bird symbolizing protection; and swords as a symbol of reconciliation between the brothers.
