The valve has a flapper that is adjustable on the inside that can change sides depending on which direction you want to allow air flow, you could adjust this by changing the side of the valve the flapper is on determines which side goes toward the tub plumbing. Note: Usually what goes wrong with this valve is freeze damage where the cap cracks.
