Description: The Carol of Amen House. The words by Charles Williams, the music by Herbert J. Foss. (London, privately issued by the authors, 1927). 25.5 x 19 cms. 6 leaves. Loosely inserted flyer for The Masque of the Manuscript, with list of characters, presented in the Library of Amen House. Limited to 100 copies (according to pencil note on endpaper) in black wrappers with stamp AH to front. Charles Williams worked at Amen House, the London offices of the Oxford University Press, as an editor and wrote several Masques to be performed by the staff, on whose characters the parts were based. This carol is in a literary vein - "The star that all lives shall seek/That makers of books desire; All that in anywise speak, Look to this silver fire: Shakespeare in utmost night/ Moved on no other quest/ Than waits hi who reads aright/ Edition and palimsest." A poor copy of a scarce early work by Williams.
