Description: Poet, publisher, provocateur and people connector, Charles Douglass Plymell was born on April 26, 1935 in Finney Kansas during the worst dust storms of that time. He was born in a converted chicken coop near Holcomb. Like many, his face was covered Wirth rags as his mother went out to shoot jackrabbits and gather cactus for meals. He published and printed underground magazines and books with his wife Pamela Beach, a namesake in avant-garde publishing. He published Ray Bremser and Herbert Huncke, whom he identified with from the hipster 1950s. He was influential in the underground comix scene, first printing and signing with Zap Comix artists such as Robert Crumb and S. Clay Wilson. He was involved in the mid-twentieth century counterculture movement, asserting that he went from being a member of the Beat Generation to hippies to punks and back again. (He still considers himself an outlaw poet and original punk). He was friends with William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, and Neal Cassady and Herbert Huncke. Offered for sale is his semi-autobiographical Some Mothers' Sons (Cherry Hill Press, 2004). It is illustrated with vintage photographs of various friends--William S. Burroughs, Neal Cassady, Robert Brandman, Rod McKuen (at Edgar Allen Poe's grave), Ray Bremser, Paul Bley, Bill Heine. et al. The volume contains eight new poems dedicated to friends. Softcover, 1st., signed on title page; 56 pp. Laid in: photograph of Robin Macey, a founding member of the Dixie Chicks (who left the group in 1992 owing to a dispute about it musical direction). The photograph is described on the front by Plymell and signed by him on the back. Also laid in is an unused postcard picturing Plymell and his wife. Near fine (9+ on scale of 10). Don’t be shy: give it a try. Doc deals!
