Description: Charles II, Education of Prince William, 1654. Cast Medal by Pieter Van Abeele. A cast copper medallion made using the methods of the medalist Pieter Van Abeele, a dutch medalist, famed for his method of pressing medals, obverse and reverse separated and then joining them with a metal rim. This medal follows the methods of Van Abeele. The medal is repousse and is of two adjoined sides, the metal rim now a bit damaged. The nature of the casting and the manufacturing of this medallion mean that the wear looks dramatic, with the nose of Prince William being somewhat flattened, returning into the centre of the medallion. Worth noting that the obverse of this medallion is paired with other reverse types.Prince William later becoming King William III.PVA.F Signature in the obv. field. PVAB.F Signature in rev. field. I have not been able to find an example in cast copper, only cast silver, the latter being very desirable, however I have noted cast copper examples of other Van Abeele medallions from the same time period, namely Eimer 192, MI 417/55, this example Eimer ??.Reverse with the prince dressed in classic attire before minerva, the obverse with the prince facing, wearing a soft plumed cap.64.5mm.
