Description: Charles Heave Dolan [1895 1981] was one of the original 38 confirmed American pilots to join the Lafayette Escadrille in 1916. He began his service in France as a volunteer in 1915 with the French Foreign Legion during the opening of the war. Dolan served in Lafayette Escadrille Squadron N-124 until the United States entered the war where he then transferred to the U.S.103rd Aero Squadron. Lieutenant Dolan was credited with two aerial victories and seven probables during his service. Dolan later served as the President of the Lafayette Escadrille Society and was the last surviving member. Listed for auction is a photograph signed by Charles H. Dolan. The photograph is a paper copy of a book photograph, the image was originally taken in 1916 while training to fly and is signed under his image, ''Corp Carl Dolan French Foreign Legion 1916 at Buc Bleriot School'' in black pen. The page measures 8.75 x 5.75 inches, trivial handling wear, pin holes top left corner, otherwise it is in very good condition. The autograph is authentic and will be a desirable addition to any World War I collection.
