Description: What a fantastic find for the Collector and or Decorator. Classic beach decor by a welllisted Baltimore, Maryland artist. From the Collection of a Bethany Beach Gentleman. From Newton's Obituary, July 31, 2003. Charles T. Newton Jr., a Fells Point artist who chronicled the city and its bustling waterfront, died of cancer Tuesday at Cherrywood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Reisterstown. He was 74. An artist whose work hangs in many downtown barrooms, Mr. Newton had lived for many years on Regester Street. Born in Baltimore and raised in Woodlawn, he graduated from Forest Park High School. He then enlisted in the Army and served with occupation forces in Japan until being discharged in 1948. In the early 1950s, he established the Little Folks Studio in Woodlawn, which specialized in children's photography. In 1957, he enlisted in the Air Force and served with a transportation squadron until 1961 -- while earning a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Fresno State College in California. Returning to Baltimore after his discharge, Mr. Newton made his living as an artist. In addition to painting Baltimore bar scenes, tugboats and ships, he also enjoyed painting in Western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore.
