Description: Limited, numbered edition. #222 of 500 (matching my other volume from this same set). Charles Brockden Brown - Ormond; or, The Secret Witness, and Clara Howard; or, The Enthusiasm Of Love. Firstly, a gothic novel originally published in 1799; and secondly, an epistolary novel of manners originally published in 1800. This is also part of the six volume David McKay set of Brown's complete novels, issued in Philadelphia in 1887. Any issues with the cover may be seen, in the photos, which I'll also mention below. As with the other volume, I believe this is unread. Where the other has some resistance to opening throughout (especially later in), this one is tighter in the early and later parts of the book. That may have to do with the longer pagination, as it's 410 pages (where the companion volume is far less) making it more likely, through sheer page weight, to open more easily. Either way, I am not forcing it open. There is some very occasional foxing inside, but pretty minimal. It seems to appear more on the opening pages (shown in two photos) than later in. The only marking inside the book is the name 'PACKARD' stamped in red in the far lower right of the inside back cover. (Alleged to be formerly owned by James Packard, of automotive fame.) The exterior: Boards in green cloth, with off-white corners and spine of vellum, the two separated by lines of gilt. The top of the pages are in gilt (as seen in the photo). Spine also gilt-stamped, all legible, though a crease extends over the length of the title of 'Ormond' (please see photo). There is some staining in the lower left of the front. Also, there is some bubbling of the green cloth on the front, and separation of the cloth for the upper half of the length of the front (however, not lifting to speak of). On the spine, there is a stain extending over the length of the lower half, and a very small scratch to the vellum right in the middle of the spine. On the back, there is a little bubbling and creasing to the green cloth, a dark stain or smudge in the far upper left, and staining in the lower right (all shown in photos). The lower left corner of the boards on the back is dented inward, but without creating any wrinkle (see final photo). To determine an official condition, the cover would make this no better than Very Good minus; but the interior is definitely better than a mere VG. Packing: This will be carefully, and safely, placed inside a clean bag, and then into an oversized box, with several layers of security around it, and padded to prevent sliding. Postage is 6.50, which includes tracking; and I do combine shipping. I will take this to the post office within two business days of receipt of payment. After shipping, I will notify the purchaser the same day, with the tracking number. (There is also the option of picking up any purchases from me, locally, with no postage, if you are in the Sacramento area.) I am listing hundreds of books over the next several months. Thanks for looking, and please feel free to ask any questions. ,
