In the 35 years since I wrote CHARACTERS AND CACHE PLANTERS many things have happened. The manuscript was created between 1977 and 1981 for use as the documentation for my planned Masters Degree in American history using my personal notes dating back to 1960. A surprise divorce caused me to drop out of college before the start of my last semester and I never had a reason to complete that degree. If you don't complete your Bachelors you have no need for a Master's thesis. I signed a one year option with MICHAEL PAUL HENSON to put this in print. That never happened because he dies less than a year later. While I was incommunicado Karl von Mueller published a notice in his ASK EXANIMIO column stating that he wanted to publish CHARACTERS. Unfortunately he also passed away before I saw that notice. Now we have GEORGE SHIOTELIS my friend and partner who was willing to retype my original manuscript from a deteriorated copy. I have personally checked his work word for word against the original and if he made all corrections faithfully you will get every word that I wrote originally. Now for several not so humble brags about my work... Since I sent out four carbon copies of the original manuscript (Karl von Mueller and Michael Paul Henson plus two others got them) a number of people have paid over fifty dollars to bootleggers for lousy xerox copies.
