Description: Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautifully designed & decorated figurines of people & animals. This pretty lady made in 1948 from their "Nursery Rhymes" series is called "Mary" and is often paired with one of their many lamb figurines. She is great on her own but it is always fun to look for her lamb companions. She is about 6-1/4 inches tall with the bottom of her skirt about 3-1/4 inches in diameter. She was available with detailing in various colors. The detailed hand-decoration typical of CAS pieces is evident in this piece with the flowers and trim on her dress and hat, eyes with eyelashes, and blushed cheeks. She is not marked on the bottom, but probably originally had a Ceramic Arts Studio label, and the decorators dot marks are in the hole in the bottom.
