Description: This is a very nice cave aragonite crystal cluster which was collected from the Potosi Mine in Santa Eulalia District, Chihuahua, Mexico. These cave aragonite specimens are often referred to as cave calcite but these formations are not calcite but actually crystalized aragonite. While cave aragonite clusters are often formed as stalactites and stalagmites they can also form unique, branching, tree like structures known as floss ferri , cave coral and frostwork. Collectors say that under short wave UV some of these specimens can exhibit a very faint green fluorescence. I do not have a short wave UV light to check for you if this specimen does or does not fluoresce. This cave aragonite specimen measures 3.21 inches long by 3.10 inches wide.
