I purchased a number of factory refurbished Canon Speedlite EL-5 flashes direct from Canon. I've tested each of these flashes, and they seem to have all resolved the EL-5 recall, where the batteries would drain completely within 1-2 days when stored. These flashes are confirmed to hold charge while stored, and the issues were likely repaired by Canon when refurbished. These EL-5 flashes have 1-year limited warranty from Canon dated September 30th, and I can provide original receipt if you need to use the warranty service. All photos were lit with 4 EL-5 speedlites off-camera, with one EL-5 on-camera as a trigger. I had originally planned to use these lights for off-camera use, but I found Canon's RT system to be unreliable and inconsistent. I don't recommend purchasing for off-camera use unless you work in an area with clean 2.4Ghz. When they work, they work great, but they lose link just enough for me to pass on them for paid work. (I live in a small apartment in downtown Los Angeles). As an on-camera flash, they are excellent. I used one for a nightlife event this last weekend, and 1/1024th power is a game changer! TTL with the multi-function hotshoe is rock solid, and rarely misses exposure. It's immediately replacing my Godox flashes for on-camera use, and I'll be keeping a pair for this reason.
