Description: INVENTORY CLEARANCE SALE!!!! This very fine 10" Seminole Indian male doll is a wonderful example of the craft of Seminole doll-making. As is typical, this doll is made from palmetto fiber and dressed in patchwork clothing. He wears the traditional "big shirt" that features the "mountains" design element that was first used in the mid-1930s. Most unusual, however, is his built-up nose, a feature rarely used on Seminole dolls because of the extra time it took to make. His head is topped by a traditional turban, encircled with a metal band that represents the silver band worn by many adult Seminole males. Also important to note is the lack of rick-rack. Although rick-rack trim was available at earlier times in Seminole clothing, it typically was used quite sparingly and as vertical decorative pieces on mens' clothing. The horizontal widespread use of thin rick-rack trim was not incorporated in doll clothing until it appeared more frequently in the 1950s and 1960s. One other feature is the original price tag of $4.80 that remains attached to this doll. The shipping cost includes mandatory insurance. The doll can be displayed upright on its stand if braced from the rear, or if museum putty is used to secure the base.
