c 1920 Hammersley & Co tea trio, "English Chintz" pattern #3257 signed, set #6

Description: c 1920 Hammersley & Co fluted tea trio, spectacular "English Chintz" pattern #3257 with the tactile, flat Gainsborough shaped cup. Dimensions:The cup is 6 cm tall including the handle and 12 cm from outer edge of the cup to outer edge of the handle.The saucer 14.5 cm diameter.The side plate 15.5 cm diameter. Masses of gorgeous hand painted flowers in the most brilliant colours, with gilded edges on all pieces, truly spectacular. The colours and gilding are bright, crisp and fresh, and each piece bears the artist's name F Howard hand written in very small font in among the decoration. The cup and saucer are in perfect "as new" original antique condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration that I can identify, these pieces are in pristine condition with absolutely no sign of use. The side plate has two fine hairline cracks to the base, both of which have passed through the body but are stable, refer images 5 & 6. There are a few random, very small kiln fleck or glaze marks, and some micro crazing, entirely consistent with the manual production techniques of the time. There are no back stamps, but the cup has the pattern number hand written on the base. I have listed 11 identical sets in varying condition separately, along with matching sugar bowl & milk jug, and serving plate in the same pattern. Ref 893
