Description: c 1896 Wileman and Co (Foley China) daisy shaped, fluted serving plate in the Fern design, emerald green, pattern #5894. Produced at the Fenton works in Staffordshire prior to change of ownership to Foley, then Shelley. The reverse bears the Wileman & Co and Foley China England crown back stamp in green; printed registration number 276279; hand drawn pattern number and painter's marks. The pale emerald green on a crisp white background with gilded banding and the fluted design is wonderfully tactile. Dimensions: 23 cm diameter In wonderfully original antique condition, there are no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration that I can identify, the colours and gilding remain bright. Random tiny inclusions, scorch marks and crazing in the glaze from the kiln process; and paint smudges and colour variations, are very typical of china produced in this period using almost entirely manual processes, and should be expected.
