Description: A 67 page book covering the lives of the 6 subclasses of the Consolidation type locomotives on the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The first of these 2-8-0 locomotives were built by Baldwin 1866. They were a utility locomotives which could be used on locals, switch assignments and regular freight and passenger train. Because the CB&Q used various fuels, wood, lignite, bituminous coal and oil. This caused the boilers on various locomotives to be designed on the fuel source used. The last of this class of locomotive was retired in 1940. So, lots of modifications and rebuiding of these locomotives took place.over 100 black and white photos. A drawing of the locomotive various subgroups are also included.
