Description: Framed picture Winter on the Settle-Carlisle by Alan Fearnley This picture of a 9F battling its way across one of the Settle-Carlisle line's many viaducts was painted to coincide with the centenary of the line in 1975. Stories of extreme weather conditions on the Settle-Carlisle line are legion. Of the line being blocked by snow drifts twenty feet deep at Dent, and of trains being halted because of the powerful winds. A wind once spun an engine uncontrollably on the turntable at Garsdale. BR Class 9F 2-10-0 were the last class of steam locomotives designed and built in Britain. The class comprised 250 examples built between 1954 and 1960, the last survivors being withdrawn in 1968. No 92220 and No 92203 have been preserved. A powerful image framed in a 30 x 24 cm. (12 x10 inch) size clipframe. The picture offered does NOT have the "SAMPLE" watermark!!
