Description: BRITISH BUTTERFLIES AND THEIR TRANSFORMATIONS Humphreys & Westwood 1st ed 1841 Click image to enlarge Description British Butterflies and their Transformations Arranged and illustrated in a series of plates by H N Humphreys with Characters and Descriptions by J O Westwood 1st edition published in London by William Smith in 1841. 10.75ins by 8ins Forty two hand coloured plates and a hand cololured title page as well as a plain title. Plate 10 has a little edge damage. Some tissue guards are a little crinkled with spots of foxing and some tissues are missing. Scattered foxing in the text and on some of the plates. Two bookplates on the front endpaper. Rebound in full dark brown calf with gilt decorations on front and rear boards. Five raised bands on the spine and spine is lettered and decorated in gilt. The yellow endpapers probably date from the rebind rather than the original binding. Edges, corners and spine are a little rubbed and boards are slightly marked.
