Description: A Theory of Justice, by John Rawls. (Harvard University Press, Cambridge, 1971.) Apparently a first edition; no other printings are listed on the copyright page. Paperback, 607 pages. Near-mint condition, only the slightest bit of fading colour on the front cover only along the edge of the spine. The whole issue of justice, equality, and “fairness” was revitalized by Rawls in this seminal work, possibly the single most important philosophy book of the past 50 years. It launched the discussions and the controversies that rage today about political obligations, distributive justice, social union and community, constitutional liberties, and equality. Note: I am also selling four books that respond to Rawls’ theories, by Dworkin, Walzer, Sandel, and Young. A package deal is available.
