Particle sizes of akadama: 1/4” to just over 1/4” Imported from Japan Particle sizes of lava: 1/4” to just over 1/4” Particle sizes of orchiata bark: 1/4” to just over 1/4” Imported from New Zealand, Orchiata bark is superior to pine fines. Orchiata is a unique and sustainable substrate produced from the finest quality, 100% pure New Zealand Pinus radiata bark. Its solid bark particles are resistant to chipping and composting, lengthening repotting time, it can last three to five years. Peat moss (fine particles as pictured): Peat moss is a soil improver that helps retain micronutrients from fertilizers and other substances. Peat moss is able to bind or hold on to tremendous amounts of nutrients. Thus, the surrounding soil will be able to hold nutrients more effectively. Beneficial microorganisms in peat help to cycle nutrients through the substrate and have good nutritional effects for the plants. Peat moss can stay active in soil for years. Particle sizes of zeolite: 1/8th” to just under 1/4” (see picture) Sourced in the US. Zeolite should be used at a 10% rate which is why this mix contains 1 cup of zeolite out of the total 10. Zeolite is known for being an extremely effective colloid (a negatively charged particle in the soil). This is very useful for plants because a lot of the nutrients plants require are positively charged ions, called cations. Unlike other soil amendments, zeolite does not break down over time. Zeolite remains in the soil to improve nutrient retention. Its addition to soil significantly reduces water and fertilizer costs by retaining beneficial nutrients in the root zone. Particle sizes of perlite: 1/8th” and slightly under and slightly over (see picture) Promoting root growth and soil structure, perlite is a natural mineral and soil amendment that helps circulate air between the roots for strong, healthy plants.
