Description: Bitternut Hickory Nuts (Carya cordiformis) Freshly harvested September 2024 These nuts are this years fresh crop, harvested from the native trees surrounding my Kansas farm. Because they come from native trees the size of the nuts vary in size and shape and you will receive a random mix of sizes. They have been hand harvested, hulled, washed, dried and stored in a clean environment. If the nuts are to be planted, they will need to cold stratify before they will germinate. This can be done by putting them in damp sand and storing them in a refrigerator for three months before planting, or by planting them in the fall where you will want them to grow so that they stratify naturally over the cold winter months.
