By Fall, the little clusters of purple berries are ready for picking!The berries are kind of bland when eaten raw, but the Jelly is the best!It grows well in zones 5-10. These seeds were harvested October 2023Deerberry is a large bush that has the tiniest white bell shaped flowers. The berries are the largest of all the Florida Natives with pretty small seeds. We call these mini cherries, they are pretty tart but finish sweet. It would make great jam!These are tucked in the shady, low areas of the farm.It grows well in zones 5-9. Seeds harvested July 2024Sand Blackberry is an ankle cutting shrub that puts off sweet berries right at the 4th of July.We have these berries popping up all over our gardens. They taste really sweet when ripe.These make a great hedge for property lines! We have transplanted about 300 feet of blackberries spaced every 2 feet. It grows well in zones 5-9. Seeds harvested June 2024Small Black Blueberry doesn't reference the berry, but the size of the plant. The berries are huge!The Small Black Blueberries had more berries this year than we have ever seen before!This is our favorite of the native berries because they are large berries that are very juicy with mild flavor. The seeds are on the larger side, but it's worth it. We posted this 'Mystery Berry' last year. Once the mystery was solved, the seeds sold out within a few months!It grows well in zones 6-9. Seeds harvested June 2024Sparkleberry is a gorgeous 'crepe myrtle' like tree! The bark and leaves are very similar, but these will produce berries!In the early spring, the tree is covered in tiny white bell shaped flowers, but by October you will have tons of berries!The berries are fairly mild, bland, and mealy with larger seeds. BUT the wine is excellent!These trees are all over the farm, but love morning sun with afternoon shade.It grows well in zones 6-9.
