Benge 3 cornet mouthpiece - deep bowl cup, Lausmann OEM UMI

Description: For years, I've supported the idea of branching out from the Vincent Bach 3C/5C/7C monotony that predominated school band trumpet & cornet sections. The Benge 3 is a great way to do that, and it's a great overall cornet mouthpiece! The 3, per the Bach Mouthpiece Manual, has a "Fairly large cup with full, rich tone" - fitting description for this. I can't find a corresponding entry in any UMI materials beyond the 1988 Benge catalog mention, but that description would effectively be duplicated there. The sound is bold, yet not excessively dark. It's not fuzzy or diffuse, but defined. The softer throat-entry shoulder takes some edge off this version, compared to the equivalent Amati-Kraslice and Bach versions. For cornet players wanting an all-around mouthpiece with more geometric and sonic depth, this is a good upgrade option. I found this model useful for upper register training as well due to less support, and it served well in everything from marching band section work to concert band to solos. With the medium wide, semi-flat rim, it has a comfortable feel - the rim is slightly wider than the Bach version, with a marginally sharper bite. This example has great silver plating as well, with some light nicks, microscratches, and other signs of wear. The shank opening is round with a few nicks as well.
