Description: The model 6-EY-1 is an updating of the hugely successful model 45-EY-2. This model was manufactured from 1955-1957 and retained the same amplifier and changer as its predecessor model. You'll love owning (or perhaps, giving as a gift) this beautifully restored RCA 45 rpm record player manufactured in April of 1955. This model features its own built-in amplifier and automatic changer and is ready to play 45 rpm records with no additional equipment needed. Just turn it on, give the tubes half a minute or so to warm up and listen to all those old 45s. You rarely see a restored 6-EY1 listed for sale here. The original finish black Bakelite base has no deep scratches, chips or breaks and has been polished and buffed to a like-new sheen. The motor board was completely disassembled, sand-blasted to remove any minor rust or blemishes and then repainted in several coats of Champaign Silver finish topped with clear coat. The paint has been protected with carnauba wax and buffed to a nice shine. The motor has been totally disassembled, soaked in lacquer thinner for 48 hours to remove old dried and caked oil, and the bearings lubricated to RCA specs (a 3-day process). The motor runs at the proper speed (checked with a digital laser tachometer) from the moment you start it. New rubber motor mounts have been installed. The 2-stage 3-tube amplifier has been serviced with new capacitors, and the tube sockets and volume control flushed with DeOxit contact cleaner. All resistors checked and replaced as necessary. Plate voltage of the output tube was measured and is well within RCA specs for long tube life with minimal distortion. The tubes tested strong on a Sencore TC-142 tester and deliver superb, warm, analog sound to the original 4 x 6" speaker in the front.Turntable spindle has been disassembled, cleaned and the bearings lubricated for reliable record changing. The spindle cap on this model is a gray color rather than the maroon red of the previous model. Idle wheel has been rebuilt with new rubber by V-M Audio Enthusiasts for accurate speed and smooth operation. Rubber on the change cycle wheel has been reconditioned. All internal parts have been cleaned and lubricated where necessary. Tone arm has been polished and buffed and a new modern low riding ceramic cartridge bridged for mono, with 0.7mil diamond stylus has been installed to play your newer stereo records as well as your oldie 45s without damage. Please note that although many of these ceramic cartridges may look the same, they're not and you'll find that the cartridges I use have superior tracking ability, even for newer stereo records. The tone arm is gray in color, an aesthetic improvement on the traditional black tone arm. Tone arm weight has been optimized for accurate tracking yet gentle treatment of your valuable 45 records. The famous RCA "Nipper" emblem is part of the new styling on the tone arm. New rubber motor board support cones have been installed to provide cushioning between the turntable and the base. A new 6 foot power cord has been installed. As the new owner of this nostalgic gem, I know you'll enjoy putting on a stack of up to fifteen 45rpm records (depending on thickness and warping) and listening to them as they sounded when 45's were first introduced by RCA Victor back in the 1950s. As others have noted, you may occasionally find a record that doesn't drop to the platter properly due to manufacturing variances, but I've included instructions on how to remedy this problem. Rest assured this machine will be carefully cushioned, double-boxed and packed with care to arrive in splendid condition.
