This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization. NOTE: I have been selling Burmite (Burmese) amber for years on eBay. I am a reputable Burmite amber seller.This is a fully polished, cabochon shaped piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a rare and beautifully preserved Gnat Bug (Family Enicocephalidae) with a hooked beak along with a mite, strands of extinct club fungi and numerous plant hairs from the Cretaceous Period. A rare and most unique find! Gnat bugs are known predators and the beak would be used to attack its prey.The fungus would have been from the genus Paleoclavaria, species burmitis and is now extinct. It that was on the Earth when dinosaurs still walked. These organisms have been trapped from the time of the dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops.The piece itself weighs 2.4 grams with approximate dimensions of 3.1 cm length by 1.9 cm width and 0.4 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch. Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view. Please note that the saltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink. However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink.
