The Bahamas 1 Dollar is a commemorative issue of the 500th anniversary of the 1492 landfall of Christopher Columbus at San Salvador. Its obverse bears a portrait of Christopher Columbus, the quincentennial logo, a compass rose, and a sand dollar. The reverse of the note depicts Carribean flamingoes or Phoenicopterus ruber, Bahamian parrots known as Amazona leucocephala bahamensis, and a white cay iguana called cyclura rileyi. A map of San Salvador Island dotted with Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria vessels, and the Coat of Arms of the Bahamas are also shown on the reverse. Each banknote from this uncut sheet is 156 x 67 mm in size.
