Description: Baccarat Opaline Flower Vase, Date: Circa 1850 Origin : Baccarat, France Colour : White Opaline, Polychrome Flowers, Blue Banding and Gilded body Lovely Baluster Body Decorated with sprays of flowers. Measures: Please refer to photos. Condition: Previously Owned. There is a small hole on the bottom of this vase ( where a sticker would normally have been) and a substance has been poured into it. I am not certain what was poured into the base of the vase but assume it was done to ensure the vase did not crack further. Please refer to photos as they are part of the description. Historical Information: Jean-Francois Robert was a decorator at the Sevres Porcelain Factory prior to opening his own workshop. He had patented a process for painting on glass during the 1830s and sought to capitalise upon this. The patent applied to a new type of enamel that could be annealed at the lower temperatures. A commercial partnership with Parisian retailer Launay Hautin and Compagnie was most fruitful. Launay Hautin were French distributors for many manufacturers including Saint Louis and Baccarat. Similar vases appear in the 1840 Launay Hautin catalogue, however Jean-Francois Robert continued to decorate them into them 1860s.
