Australian Boulder Opal Pendant 25 X 19 X 5 mm, Sterling Silver setting SBJ-126

Description: This Australian Boulder Opal pendant is set in a sterling silver bezel with wire loops soldered onto the back so that when a chain is added the pendant won't flip over. The stone measures about 25 by 19 by 5 mm and weighs roughly 5.661 grams which includes the silver setting. Dad most likely made this pendant around 1990. You will need to add your own chain for this pendant unless you just like the stone for the stone. My father loved rocks! His PhD in mineralogy, and general interest in all things related to geology, meant he collected rocks as mineral specimens as well as rough material to either facet or cut cabochons from. He spent at least 70 years cutting or faceting stones and making simple jewelry from them. He loved to find unusual stones to turn into jewelry. He told me that he liked to let the stones determine their shapes, finding the best size and shape to focus upon, so his pieces are truly one of a kind. He often gave them to family members and friends as gifts but he also sold them to jewelers, or sold them directly to the public through the yearly sales event that his lapidary club held. When he died at age 92 he still had a large collection of pendants that were waiting to be sold. I'm trying to find new owners for them now, as well as finding new homes for some of the jewelry that myself and other family members have acquired. (As we all grow older we are now finding that we need to downsize our collections - especially as we all got lots of stone pendants as gifts over the decades!)
