Description: ASEA Viktoria pendant light, Pair available, 1920s semi opalized light for school – offices – hospitals – etc, all original, rewired. Amazingly all original, in beautiful aged condition. These are well known patented pendants made from the 1920s (as are these) onwards to light large spaces efficiently via ‘semi indirect’ lighting design. The globe has an opalized section, a clear section and also a frosted section which when lit can illuminate large spaces without the need for massively powerful bulbs and associated glare. ASEA, translated from Swedish stands for General Swedish Electrical Limited Company which survived in original form until the 1990s when like so many others merged in order to survive. These are all original except for the fresh wiring, and the short length of chain supplied. Your will of course need a ceiling rose. The original bulb holder has been stripped and cleaned on a component level, and had an earth added which is now in use. The gallery has 2 pieces, a smaller cap sitting over the larger gallery itself. I believe the smaller cap is actually a ceiling rose which was put over the gallery when the lights were originally installed and has been left there since. You could of course use as intended, however the brass underneath is lacquered and un-tarnished, so your gallery would have a bit of a tan line. The lacquer elsewhere is long gone, but has contributed to the nice variation in the patina. Please do study the pictures as they form part of the description. The shades do have a couple of very minor scuffs only visible when scrutinised. There are no major dents of scratches and all the aging is in keeping with the passing of circa 100 years. These are not PAT tested, but as I say an earth has been added. The globe’s have a small hole at their base to allow condensation to escape which assumedly could be an issue in some of their use’s, schools – hospitals – museums – drawing rooms etc. Price is for 1, but at the time of writing 2 are available.
