Description: CILICIAN ARMENIA coin. RARE VARIETY Levon spelled with Armenian letter "Vev" not "Hiun" which would be the correct spelling. This is a silver ancient/medieval Armenian takvorin coin of Levon. Bedoukian attributed this coin variety to "Levon the Usurper" (1363-1365 AD) but other experts think it may just be a rare variety of Levon IV (1320-1342). Historical evidence for a Levon the Usurper is scant, and why he is considered a usurper is uncertain. The coin you will receive is guaranteed authentic, uncleaned as found, see illustration to evaluate the condition. Silver coins of late medieval Cilician Armenia have immobilized designs and are not as carefully made as coins of earlier kings. The coin shows the king seated on horse/lion with cross. The designs and Armenian legends are sometimes obscured. The coin may be cleaned by the buyer if desired. First class USPS shipping within USA only. See my related lots.
