Description: This 1980 silkscreen poster for an art exhibit by Carlos Raquel Rivera at the Museo del Barrio in New York City is in very good condition. Colors and paper are strong. There are a few age spots on the top, left and right white border white (See photos) easily covered when matted and framed. The poster has never been used or exhibited. Acclaimed artist Antonio Maldonado signed it on the plate (See photo). BIO: Antonio Maldonado was born in Manati, Puerto Rico in 1920 and died in San Juan in 2006. Considered one of Puerto Rico's finest painters and printmakers, Maldonado studied art as a boy and then as an adult with masters like Julio Rosado in Puerta de Tierra. He was a prominent member of the "Fifties Generation" of Puerto Rican artists. From 1947-50, he took formal art classes --- drawing, oil and mural painting --- at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City. He worked at DIVEDCO'S Graphic Arts workshop from 1963 to 1987, which he headed. His works customarily depict popular culture and the countryside. He retired from DIVEDCO IN 1987. He was also instrumental in the making the San Sebastian Street Festival in Old San Juan a worldwide yearly event.
