This is an original antique gas lamp by the Edward Miller Company, converted to electric at some point in its history, and now the wiring has been freshly updated and a vintage style plug has been addedThe brass Arrow socket has been cleaned and tested, and is working wellThe lamp has original vintage patina on the brass and original paint on the cast iron baseThe center pole is magnetic metal and has some age wear to the finish as well The top insert with the finial post is a later addition, and it works well with the added cap and finial, however if you want the lamp to be original you can probably remove it, as it would have been open at the top for a glass chimney, since it was a gas lamp. ;-) However, this makes it functional for different kinds of lamp shades. The socket uses one standard-base bulb up to 60 watts, or use an LED bulb for any brightness you like since they use low wattage for bright light. Measurements:Total height: 23 1/4"Height to the top of the socket: 14 3/4"7 1/2" diameter base The ring at the top for holding a shade with a large hole / opening in the top of the shade has a 3 1/2" diameter on the outer edge of the hump, and the outer edge of the holder has a max width / diameter of 3 7/8". So the opening in your shade can be 3 1/2" up to about 3 3/4". If you have a smaller opening on your shade and want to set the shade on the heat cap that is just below the finial, the opening can be approximately 3 1/4" to 3 3/8". Or, you can add your own heat cap with your preferred size. :)Or, you can use a shade with a finial hole.
