Fine twisted sterling silver wire cages suspend large hand cut, undrilled rock crystal stones on this gorgeous antique necklace. The stones graduate in size, the large central stone measuring 20mm, the smallest measuring 11mm. The large faceted stones sparkle beautifully when reflecting light, they are undrilled as the Chinese held the belief the Chi that was contained within the stone would escape if it were to be drilled. This wonderful antique necklace is from the 1800's, and being over 150 years old it has survived in remarkably good condition, upon close inspection there is some light age related wear to the faceted stones, nothing that detracts from its breathtaking beauty and not apparent while wearing. A smaller necklace acquired from the same estate is being offered separately, it is likely that the two were intended to be worn together. Tested and guaranteed to be sterling silver, there is a deep age appropriate patina on the silver. Measuring 22 1/2" in length this is a substantial necklace, weighing 98 grams.
