Description: Although these antique photographs are usually not "in my lane", this lovely Estate find cried out for RESCUE! The exact age of the piece is most likely early or late 1800's (my estimate!) and the fact that both sides of the lovely case remain connected is amazing! The posed image of a gentleman (??) is hand tinted and surrounded by THE MOST ORNATE gold gilt frame set atop rose colored velvet! The opposite interior is covered in maroon velvet with an incised design. WOW! The hairdo that mimics Princess Leia's side buns PLUS a THIRD on top made me question the gender of the subject....but certainly looks like a dapper dude to me!! And what a wonderful case! The two black embossed sides are not hinged, but connected by black fabric. The gold metal latch is tightly attached. Note that the hook gets placed INSIDE the little peg (last photo), not AROUND it. Outer dimensions of the case measure 2" vertically, 1 3/4" horizontally with a 1/2" depth. What a wonderful treasure to enhance your Victorian decor!
