Description: Antique Staffordshire Matched Pair Girls Reading These stunning pieces date to the early 19th Century. Finely modeled and decorated they feature girls in Grecian attire reading. They are on the heavier side so could easily be intended to be bookends. A scarce early pearlware mold is used as the base with silver lustre coating overtop. This consists of a thin flow layer of copper. Then an electro-plated coat of platinum finished the effect. The coating was made and the wares marketed by a silversmith. In most cases the silver wears away and the copper color shows as can be seen in photo. Approx 6.5"H X 7"W. Provenance: Roger T Powers Collection Documentation: Base Model shown in Schkolne Staffordshire Book Volume 1, p. 98, Fig 25.43 Condition: Minor chipping to base, wear through of silver layer, minor chipping to base. I will be listing a large Collection of Staffordshire, many pieces deaccessioned from a Museum so please continue watching. Terms of Sale Please review photos closely.
