Description: Background texture example REGARDING INVOICE: PLEASE BE SURE TO WAIT FOR INVOICE BEFORE PAYING FOR ITEM. THANK YOU! *** About: Born in France in 1870 Victor Durand Jr. was the fourth generation in his family to work in glass. He migrated to the US and for a time was a designer for Tiffany prior to opening his own glass house, the Vineland Flint Glass Works in Vineland NJ. Although the factory originally produced utilitarian items, Durand wanted to expand into the art glass category. With the help of a few others who had previously worked for the Quezal Art Glass Decorating Company in Brooklyn NY, he began producing high quality Art Glass at the Vineland Glass Works in 1925. Durand produced very high quality Art Glass that competed with Steuben's Aurene and Tiffany's Favrile glass but the quality of his glass was greatly limited by his untimely death from a tragic auto accident in 1931. Due to the short time that Durand produced Art Glass, the quantity of his glass was greatly limited. Durand glass is very desirable and is included in all major Art Glass collections world-wide. *** BEING OFFERED IS THIS *** SPECTACULAR!!, ANTIQUE - ART DECO, *** PROPERLY SIGNED DURAND # 1812-7 ( *** VICTOR DURAND, VINELAND, N.J. ), *** GOLDISH - ORANGE FLORAL URN FANCY ART GLASS VASE WITH VERY LOVELY FINE GLASS SPUN THREADING!! GOOD LUCK!! *** Victor Durand was the inventor of the Threaded Glass application...By the turn of the century Art Nouveau become very popular in America, thanks to artists like Louis Comfort Tiffany, Frederick Carder, Arthur J. Nash, and Victor Durand - went out on his own to create some of the finest circa early 1900's American Art Glass ever made...Durand art glass received the Medal of Honor at the Sesquicentennial International Exposition in Philadelphia in 1926. Many Durand pieces were not signed, especially the early wares. They were marked with silver and black paper labels, which usually wore away over time leaving the pieces unmarked today..Some had a hand incised marked reading only "Durand." Sometimes the brand was accompanied by a large "V" and numbers indicating the shape number and height of the piece. Most of these engraved marks were traced with an aluminum pencil giving the lettering a silver appearance. In 1932 The Durand Glass Company discontinued all of its artistic glass, subsequently this vase was made circa 1925-1932. Durand was a contemporary to Tiffany Studios, Steuben, Quezal and several others in the 1920's. Although they blew glass in a shorter period of time than any of these glass houses Durand made his mark on the art glass world. This is a quality piece of art glass that is considered much rarer because there are by far fewer examples of Durand Art Glass than his contemporaries of the day such as Tiffany, Steuben and Quezal.
